Scotland Loch Ness Monster Hunt

The Loch Ness and Inverness is perhaps most widely known for the mysterious Loch Ness Monster that legend indicates inhabits the largest lake in Scotland. Over 20 miles long, a mile wide and 700 feet at its deepest, the loch is an impressive sight to behold. But visitors to Inverness should not, and indeed could not, overlook the stunning surrounding area that offers a great selection of things to do.

Activities include horse riding on one of the many bridle paths near the loch. The horse riding centres in the area offer a variety of options for those wishing to indulge in some riding. Lessons are offered for all levels of riders, and trekking and trail riding is also an option. The hill rides give magnificent views over Loch Ness and the Great Glen, or there is an option of riding low through the open country and woodland.

For something a little gentler, how about walking? Not all of the terrain in the Highlands is mountainous, though you will be sorely missing out if you don’t explore these heights! The popular ‘Trail of the Seven Lochs’ at the south of the Loch Ness is also worth a crack. This circular route offers varied terrain and stunning views, though it is recommended that you are prepared for all weather conditions and carry a map and a compass.

Other activities to enjoy in the area are varied – you will not be stuck for things to do, especially if you are the adventurous sort! Why not try your hand at canoeing, abseiling, gorge walking, canyoning or weaseling? You could try archery, climbing, orienteering and mountain biking.

Inverness nestles towards the end of Loch Ness, and is an animated city proud of its Gaelic heritage. With jigs and pub ceilidhs, pipers playing and dancers dancing, the liveliness of the city will add so much colour to your stay. It has a wide selection of riverside restaurants, popular bistros and cafes, with plenty of pubs that are home to some local Scottish brews.

Accommodation here is plentiful, with options of boutique hotels, cosy b&bs and inns. Take a look at Scotland-BedandBreakfasts.com for more information.
